A2AC Murals Create Visual Art Throughout Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti
“Since 1909, the Ann Arbor Art Center has been sparking creativity in people of all ages and artistic abilities.”
This long-standing institution has been a haven for many forms of artistic expression “through innovative programming, provocative exhibitions, and a wide range of learning courses.” In doing so, it has lived its mission “to be a contemporary forum for the visual arts through education, exploration, collaboration, and exhibition.”
A productive and successful partnership with local buildings and businesses has culminated in the creation of the A2AC Murals project. The pairing of local, regional, and national artists with the downtown buildings allowed them to demonstrate their incredible skills and create a beautiful environment of public art.
The building that CWA occupies (Phoenix West/ 117 N. 1st Street) was lucky enough to be chosen and utilized for a gorgeous mural by the artist Jacob Dwyer which “depicts the symbiotic relationship of two native Michigan birds.” These two birds, the red-bellied woodpecker, and the Eastern bluebird are shown “through the passing of the seasons and the illustration of birds in motion.”
