Carlisle | Wortman Associates’ Community Planner Michelle Marin and Principal, AICP Paul Montagno present at this year’s Planning Michigan Conference in Grand Rapids, MI.

On top of exhibiting and networking at the CWA booth and throughout the entire conference, our Michelle Marin (Community Planner) and Paul Montagno (Prinicpal, AICP) moderated, presented and helped lead a discussion/course on “Practical Preservation: Creating Defensible Tree Protection.”

Their session covered how balancing development goals with environmental management goals can be challenging. Through the lenses of planning, law, and arboriculture, the panel discussed how well-crafted, legally defensible tree preservation standards can support development while also preserving or enhancing a healthy tree canopy accessible to all communities.

The Planning Michigan Conference is the source of best planning practices for professional planners, community development professionals, planning commissioners, and zoning and elected officials.

This important, annual conference provides a forum for sharing best practices and learning about new tools and techniques for planning. From professional development, continued education, professional networking and resources, this year’s conference was a success!
