Post office adaptive reuse earns honors for Plymouth DDA
Congratulations to our client, the City of Plymouth and its downtown development authority. The conversion of a historic downtown post office into a boutique grocery store has earned them the 2018 Michigan Downtown Association award for Best Economic Development Project over $1 million.Earlier this year the Michigan Historic Preservation Network recognized the grocery, Westborn Market, with one of its awards for best preservation of a historic building.Built in 1935, the old post office now contains a full-service grocery, florist, deli and wine and beer department. Westborn converted the loading dock into an outdoor café. The original post boxes, an old safe and a World War II era mural remain. The conversion cost $3.4 million in construction with $1.5 million in equipment.
